Last month Facebook held their annual F8 event, where they share the goals and trends for the year ahead. Some highlights from this two-day event include:

Community Building: Facebook executives have been open about killing the organic reach of posts for business pages, which has reignited the need for building out communities on Facebook, rather than posting content & blindly hoping it's seen by the target audience. To aid in that goal, Facebook is spending time developing technology that will help to accomplish this in a variety of ways.

Artificial Intelligence is an example of this. Facebook plans to expand the capabilities of their Messenger app, with Camera Effects Platform being a recent demonstration of this. In addition to AI, they also plan to invest in virtual reality, augmented reality, and expanded connectivity across the world. Read more about the updates discussed in their keynotes in the Facebook Newsroom.
