Windows 10 EOL FAQ

Windows 10 End-of-Life: What You Need to Know

Support for Windows 10 ends on October 14, 2025. Here’s what that means and how we help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

What happens after that date?

Your devices won’t stop working overnight but the risks grow quickly.

Without ongoing security updates, Windows 10 becomes more vulnerable to malware, ransomware, and other cyber threats. This is exactly what we saw after Windows 7 reached its end-of-life in 2020.

If your business is subject to industry or regulatory compliance, running unsupported software could also put you at risk of falling out of compliance.

How do I know if my devices can be upgraded?

We’ve already assessed your systems using data from our management platform. We go beyond Microsoft’s basic requirements and use their official hardware readiness script to evaluate each device’s age, performance, and long-term reliability.

Even if a device is technically compatible with Windows 11, that doesn’t always mean it should be upgraded. If a system isn’t likely to deliver a dependable experience, we’ll recommend a replacement plan that fits your needs and budget.

What if I have systems that can’t be upgraded?

No problem. Your Partner Success Manager will work with you to create a simple, phased replacement plan aligned to your timeline, budget, and business needs.

What’s different about Windows 11?

Windows 11 brings a refreshed look: a centered Start menu, updated icons, and a cleaner layout. It might feel new at first, but your apps, settings, and files come with you.

Will my apps still work? Is my data safe?

In most cases, yes. Most Windows 10-compatible apps run smoothly on Windows 11. If your business relies on highly specialized or older software, we’ll help flag potential issues.

Before any upgrade, we verify hardware compatibility using Microsoft’s official script. We rely on Microsoft’s upgrade process to preserve your files and apps but if you have questions about backups, we’re happy to help make sure everything’s in place ahead of time.

What if something goes wrong?

We monitor each upgrade closely. Our team checks for errors, follows up directly, and is available if anything feels off. You’re never on your own, just call us at (530) 891-9146 or email support@mitcs.com

How long does the upgrade take?

Most upgrades take 1–3 hours per device, depending on system age and configuration. We schedule upgrades thoughtfully, manage the process remotely, and minimize disruption to your team.

Why is there a fee for the upgrade?

Windows 11 is a free update for most licensed Windows 10 devices but getting there smoothly takes planning and care.

Your upgrade includes:

  • Microsoft hardware readiness validation
  • Scheduled rollout at convenient times
  • Live monitoring and post-upgrade follow-up
  • Hands-on support in case anything needs adjusting

This approach ensures things stay smooth, predictable, and secure so your team can stay focused and confident.
